Letter to The Editor

Newcastle Herald 26 June 2009

Little Ebony's horrendous death has many blaming DOCS. I believe we should be looking closer to home. For many years I lived in a Third World Country where welfare payments and agencies such as DOCS didn't exist. Child neglect was unheard of. Why? Because the community believed it was its responsibility to ensure children were properly cared for. It seems to me that in our busy lives many of us have lost our sense of community and too quickly hand over our responsibilities.
