Child Sexual Assault

The Child Sexual Abuse Accomodation Syndrome

Child victims of sexual abuse face secondary trauma in the crisis of discovery. Their attempts to reconcile their private experiences with the realities of the outer world are assaulted by the disbelief, blame and rejection they experience from adults. The normal coping behavior of the child contradicts the entrenched beliefs and expectations typically held by adults, stigmatizing the child with charges of lying, manipulating or imagining from parents, courts and clinicians. Such abandonment by the very adults most crucial to the child's protection and recovery drives the child deeper into self-blame, self-hate, alienation and revictimization.

Limited Disclosure of Sexual Abuse by Children Whose Experiences Were Documented by VideoTape

There was a significant tendency amount the children to deny or belittle their experiences. Some children simply did not want to disclose their experiences, some had difficulties remembering them and one child lacked adequate concepts to understand and describe them.

Our Hidden Shame

More Australian boys are falling victim to sexual abuse than girls, a leading child protection expert has told a Sunshine Coast conference. The South Australian emeritus scholar told the audience her research indicated more boys fell victim to sexual abuse than young girls, despite statistics to the contrary.

Children left with body of dead sister

A MAN was charged with murder and rape last night after earlier fleeing a Bribie Island holiday home where his 10-year-old daughter lay dead. The man had apparently left his two other children, a teenage girl and a nine-year-old boy, in the holiday home with their dead sister It is believed the children had been in the custody of their father for several years.

Mother Jailed Over Attack

A mother who watched as her de facto husband raped her 11 year old daughter has been sentenced to three years jail after pleading guilty to rape in the Cairns District Court. Judge White said decent members of the community would be horrified at the thought of a mother doing nothing while her de facto husband raped her child.

Rapist dad forces girl on Pill

A MAN has been jailed for 10 years for raping his teenage daughter on a regular basis for three years, even getting her to go on the Pill. The Sunshine Coast man had pleaded not guilty to one count of having a sexual relationship with a child, two counts of rape and one count of incest for the sexual relationship between 2002 and 2005.

Project Axis, Queensland Crime Commissioner

Tim Carmody

The statutory definition gives the term criminal paedophilia a much wider ranging meaning than its traditional medico-legal usage. No distinction, for instance, is drawn by the QCC legislation between a paedophile in the strict sense (that is, an adult sexually fixated on pre teenage children of either sex) and what are referred to as “situational offenders” (adults who engage in sex with children, no so much because they have a true sexual preference for them, but usually because they represent an available sexual substitute).

Paedophilia Inc

Yes, paedophilia is of profound concern but so, surely, is the response. In some of its manifestations, the media are not only involved in the sexual abuse of children but undoubtedly instigate it. The mass of pornography in the unmediated world of the Internet is bad enough. But the images that are projected in the mainstream media are equally ominous. I'm talking about what I've been calling, for years, corporate paedophilia: the abuse of children - involving sexual abuse, violent abuse and economic exploitation - by some of the mightiest corporations.

An interview with Freda Briggs

The major finding relating to child sex offenders was that all except two had been sexually abused by an average of 14 different persons in childhood; Fifty percent of the offenders were first abused by a female. They did not view this as harmful - the damage was in the early sexualisation process itself. They became interested in sex, albeit at age 5 or 6 and were quickly spotted by male predators who abused them again and again. I should add that most of the men did not admit to being abused; to the contrary. Abuse is denied by male victims if they escaped, liked any aspect of the relationship or grooming process, if it was non-violent, the abuser was a female or if their bodies responded physically to genital fondling - as most do.

Corporate Paedophilia Sexualisation of children in Australia

Images of sexualised children are becoming increasingly common in advertising and marketing material. Children who appear aged 12 years and under, particularly girls, are dressed, posed and made up in the same way as sexy adult models. ‘Corporate paedophilia’ is a metaphor used to describe advertising and marketing that sexualises children in these ways. The metaphor encapsulates the idea that such advertising and marketing is an abuse both of children and of public morality.

Adult Survivors of Incest Information Sheet

Incest is a betrayal of trust through sexual activity between biological or marital relatives. Perpetrators of incest are both men and women, although the majority are men. Both girls and boys are victimized, with the majority of victims being girls. Perpetrators may include: grandfathers and grandmothers, fathers and mothers, uncles and aunts, brothers and sisters.

Statistics ? 4.5% of women report an incestuous experience with fathers or stepfathers before the age of 18. 4.9% of women report an incestuous experience with an uncle before the age of 18 .? A random survey of 2,627 women and men conducted by the Los Angeles Times found that 27% of the women and 16% of the men had been incestuously abused as children

INTRAFAMILLIAL RAPE AND THE LAW IN AUSTRALIA: UPHOLDING THE LORE OF THE FATHER

This paper presents a detailed summary of central findings of recently completed PhD research undertaken by the author concerning intrafamilial child abuse and the socio-legal construction of alleged victims who underwent trials in the Victorian County Court in Australia during 1995-1996. Fourteen complete cases were examined involving 22 trial transcripts totaling more than 12,000 pages of transcript. The research sought to document and examine the maleness of law and how it discriminates against women and children victims of sex abuse trials by silencing their experiences and eroding their ability for individual agency in such a process.

Every School’s Worst Nightmare: Child Sexual Abuse

From recent publicity, you will have realized that child sexual abuse is a worldwide problem that, according to a UN statement last week, is increasing daily thanks to the availability of child porn and paedophile networks on the Internet. The Commissioner of Police for New South Wales recently described the Australian situation as reaching epidemic proportions. Furthermore this isn’t a problem restricted to low socio economic and criminal populations as many would like to believe; it crosses all social, educational and religious boundaries.
